Hi my friends,
I hope this post finds you safe and well. This is obviously a challenging time and personally I have been struggling to stay focused on my painting. My kids are home all day, all my upcoming exhibitions have been postponed, the news is anxiety provoking, not to mention all the uncertainty regarding the current health situation. I am trying my very best to stay optimistic and find new inspiration in nature, which thankfully, has not been cancelled.
Art has the unique ability to transport us to another place and time. Right now this is necessary for all of us. I have been getting through this with the help of books, movies, and of course visual art. While working I find myself lost in the painted landscape in front of me; I hope my work has this effect on you as well. "A June Afternoon" (above) is a recent painting that brings me hope and peace. It features a favorite painting location and I can't wait to get back there soon. Capturing light is a recurring theme in my work and now, more than ever I am choosing to see this light as a metaphor. This will eventually pass and we will once again engage in the activities we took for granted just a few weeks ago.
Lastly, I am thrilled to report some good news: This morning I received word that three of my paintings were accepted into the Newburyport Art Association's regional exhibition, and two have won honorable mentions! The show this year will be virtual and run from May 1-31 The show can be viewed on the website soon: www.newburyportart.org
Despite the circumstances and all the distractions I have managed to finish several new paintings, now up on my website: https://www.hillaryscottfineart.com/works
How have you been getting through this difficult situation?
Stay safe, stay well, stay home.
